How do I get my PC's Platinum terminal ID?

Summary
This article outlines how to get your machine's Platinum 'Terminal ID' to allow it to be authorised. Every machine that uses Platinum must have a licence and this is allocated using an unique terminal ID created by our authorisation programme.
More Information
The 'Terminal ID' can be obtained in a number of ways dependent on the situation in which you find yourself.
From Inside Platinum
- From anywhere in Platinum, go to the top of the Platinum Screen and
- Click on " Help About Platinum"
- Then on the [Login] tab. Look for the "Terminal ID:" line.
- You will see the name of the machine and then the four character unique Platinum 'Terminal ID'.
From a Login Error
Once a new machine is added and the short-cuts created, you will get a login error as the machine is not on the authorised terminal list. Below is an example of such an error:
Login Error 107 (xxxx) This terminal is not licensed to use Platinum. [Close] [Activate]
The value in the brackets is the 'Terminal ID' of the machine getting the error.

From Outside Platinum
If you are unable to get into Platinum, you can find your Platinum 'Terminal ID' by browsing to " My Computer ?: SX SXUtils", then look for 'SXID32.EXE' and run it to get a box that looks like this.
Terminal ID (Method 2) of <Pc Name> is XXXX OK
You will see the four Character 'Terminal ID' at the far right of this box.
Running this program creates a file called 'SXIDs.ini' stored in '\SX\SXUtils'. This will be a log of all PC names and 'Terminal IDs' that have been collected by running 'SXID32.EXE'. |
If The PC is Not Working Anymore
From Another PC That is Working and in Platinum
- Go to " Reports & Settings Maintenance Options Terminal Configuration".
- Click [Terminals] tab. You will now be presented with a list of your current licences and their assigned terminals.
- If the machine name is already in the list then it will be selected.
- Otherwise find a spare, unused or redundant licence (based on the last logged in date) in the list. You can use the "Active" columns to help identify which is the correct licence to use.
- Once the correct licence is selected, click [Activate] to activate it. It will change colour and the "ID" and "Terminal" columns will change to the new settings (summarised at the top of the window).
- You may use some of the columns further to the right to help describe and identify the terminal for the future. These are entirely optional and documentary only.
- When happy, click [Done] then [Accept].
- If all is well, you will get a message "Licence details updated successfully".
- If you get an error message, e.g. "Unable to update licence details", then you may have to Contact your Platinum dealer or our support team on 0116 230 1500 or by using our website support contact page to activate the licence manually.
From SX-Login.Log
Each time a computer accesses Platinum Software, it creates an entry log within the SX company folder. This entry log is called '?:\sx\sxco?\sx-login.log' and will be a text file.

A break down of this text document and the relevant fields that are needed and required by our Support Team are as follows:
- The left hand column in the text file is the computer name. In the example above, this is 'MACHINE02' and 'MACHINE01'.
- Next is the User's log-on code, which changes every time the user logs onto Platinum and increases numerically. In the example above, this is the column showing '1785, 1786, 1787 and 1788'.
- The next two fields are the User's ID code and their name. The User's ID is a code used by Platinum for each user. In the example above, this is the column showing '01' and '02'.
- The next two fields are the login date and time when the user logged on. In the example above, these are the columns showing '19/06/2008 16:04:48', '19/06/2008 16:04:48', and '19/06/2008 16:22:13'.
- The next 4 fields are not important here and can be ignored. In the example above, these are 'SX STATUS 000 00 00'.
- Finally the all important information - the machine's Platinum 'Terminal ID' (SXID). This is unique to each machine and is what is needed by the Catalyst Support Team.
