Summary
This article will explain how to add a unit to the system and set it up as a demonstrator.
More Information
Units: Unit is a general term used to cover all types of vehicle and machinery, including items such as motorcycles, scooters, cars, trucks, vans, caravans, motorhomes, boats, tractors, ATVs, agricultural equipment, wholegoods and construction equipment. |
Creating the Demonstrator Unit
Go to " Unit Sales Add or Edit Units".
- Press <F6> or click [Add] to create a new unit record.
- Press <F2> to get the next available Stock Number.
- Set the "New?" flag to 'No'.
- Type in the 'Model' of the unit. If the model exists this will appear, filling in the Make, Model and Description. If however the model does not appear you will have to create the model. See Creating unit models.
- Set the "V.A.T. qualify?" flag to 'Yes'.
This will then calculate the V.A.T. when you sell the unit as though it were new, although the unit itself is not new. Because you have claimed back all the V.A.T. on the purchase of the unit, it cannot be sold under the secondhand margin scheme and HMRC will want the full amount. |
- Fill in :
- "Engine Size:"
- "Chassis no.:"
- "V.I.N.:"
- "Engine no.:"
- On the "Location:", make sure that this shows the location of the demonstrator. If you have one site, this will generally be 'SHO'.
- On the "Status:" enter the Demonstrator status if one exists, or create a new status for the unit.
To do this you will need to enter a unique code into the "Status:", e.g. DEM. Press <Shift+F10> to enter the Unit Status Properties. Type a "Description:" for the status, e.g. Demonstrator. It is also a good idea to set the "Text:" and "Background:" colours. Press <Esc> and click [Accept]. |
- Click on the [Purchase] tab, enter the purchase details for the unit including the 'Purchase Amount'.
- Click on the [Features] tab, and choose 'Demonstrator' from the list of items.
- Press <Esc> and click [Accept].
Selling the Demonstrator Unit
When the time comes to sell the demonstrator, bear in mind that the sale value will include V.A.T. on the whole figure and not just on the margin.
