How should I Maintain my UPS?

A UPS (uninterruptible power supply) is used to provide a power source to important computer hardware in the event of a power failure.

It ensures that the equipment receives a free flowing supply of electricity preventing drops or surges, which can damage vital equipment.
Whilst not essential for a complete computer setup, we would strongly recommend including one as part of your system for protection against power issues.
There are two types of UPS;
- Standby UPS
- Will not give power until it detects a loss of power problem.
- On-Line UPS
- An On-Line UPS is always filtering power through it (very much like a laptop battery).
The expected lifespan of the battery is about three years and we would recommend that you replace them at this point.
Changes can be made within the operating system for the PC or server so that it will go into Hibernation or Sleep mode in the event of a power failure and the battery backup cutting in.
This can mean that important files/folders are saved and all data remains intact.
