The following article explains how to set up a new print record in Platinum. This is useful when you want to print to different printers from certain parts of Platinum.
Creating a new Printer Record
- Press <Alt+P> from anywhere within Platinum to open the "Print Record Override" window.
- Press <Ctrl+F1> to open the "Print Record Search".
- There are two ways of creating a new print record, you may copy an existing record (the easier way) by pressing <F9> or the [Copy] button or you can create an entirely new blank record by pressing <F6> or the [Add] button.
- If you choose [Copy], Platinum will prompt you to choose the existing record to copy. Enter '01' to choose the record of your "Default Windows Printer" or any other you want to copy from and then press [Choose].
- The "Printer Parameters" window will now open with a complete copy of this record.
- Change the "Record Name" to a sensible description of the purpose of the printer, e.g. 'Job Card Printer' or 'Invoice Printer'.
Setting Which Printer Your PC Prints to
On the [Device] tab, the "Default Print Device" tells Platinum where to send the printing on this record.
- Printing to the Default Windows printer is done by using a "Default Print Device" of 'WIN:.'.
- Having a selection screen of printers every time you print is done by using a "Default Print Device" of 'WIN:!'.
- If you know the name of a specific Windows printer on the network you may select it by using a "Default Print Device" of 'WIN:'Computer Name'\'Printer Name''.
 | If you are unsure of the name of a printer on your computer or on the network, press <Ctrl+F1> from "Default Print Device" or press [...] to choose it from a list of windows printers. The "Default Print Device" will then be entered for you. |
If you want to specify that a PC prints to a different printer to other machines then click [Add] and select the PC from the list of "Recently used terminals" then select the appropriate printer in the "Device" field and click [OK].
