Summary
This article explains how to delete a stock code. There may be circumstances whereby you wish to delete certain stock codes or a range of stock codes in your system.
| Obsolete\Dead stock i.e. items that have been in your system for years and have a zero stock level that you know you will not sell again. You should be careful not to remove stock items that have moved in the last two or three years since this may remove valuable audit and comparison information. |
| WARNING No 1 - A stock code cannot be removed if it A. has a stock level and\or B. Has stock history connected to it. For help on changing the stock level of an item, see here and if you need help clearing down the history of an item, see this article. |
| WARNING No 2 - Once a stock code has been removed it CANNOT be retrieved, USE WITH CAUTION. |
More Information
- Go to " Systems Stock Control Add and Edit Stock Items".
- Using the search, find the stock code you wish to delete.
| You should be VERY sure that you want to remove this item. Anything sold, purchased or adjusted in the current financial year should not be removed since this may have implications for the accounts department. |
- Click [Remove].
- At the "Are you sure you want to delete?" box, if you are sure, click [Yes].
| If you get a box headed "Unable to Delete" saying 'You are unable to delete this stock item as items have been found at depot....' you will have to zero the stock level of the item to be able to delete. This ARTICLE explains how to do this. |
| If you get a box headed "Stock Code Found" saying 'This Stock Code is in the order processing Sales\Purchase Order number....' there are outstanding orders for the item that should be dealt with before the system will allow you to delete. You can do this by clicking here for Sales Orders or here for Purchase Orders. |
