Summary
This article will explain how to create a Platinum Experience Index for a machine as well as what the index means and how to improve it.
More Information
The Platinum Experience Index (PEI) is a benchmark on the experience you will incur when running Platinum on a terminal. In other words it is a tool that will offer a guidance as to how a terminal will access Platinum and the speed of operation that can be expected.
It is similar to the Windows Experience Index that has been around since Windows 7. However it does not just look at the hardware a terminal has but how it has been configured and how that terminal interacts with a network server.
Running Platinum Experience Index
In order to get your Platinum Experience Index you will need to:
- Be logged into Platinum.
- Click on [Help] on the task bar.
- Click on the [Performance].
- Click on the [Test] Button.
If this is the first time you have done this the screen will be blank. If you have previously done this you will have the last results on screen (excluding results over 3 months). |
You will see a message of 'Please wait... Performing Benchmarks...'. This can take about 10 minutes to run so please be patient. You should choose a time to run when your local network activity is low as this can affect the results of the benchmark.
The Results and What they Mean
The results are displayed on screen and will show which terminal ran the 'Platinum Experience Index', when and what version of Windows it is on.
Optimising Data Files
- It may display files that can be optimised, so that the processing of the files is improved which will in turn increase the index reached.

Data Access
If your system has not been configured to store the temporary files locally in the Windows Temp Folder on the local PC, this will be shown here. Contact your Platinum dealer or our support team on 0116 230 1500 or by using our website support contact page for more information.
There will be a "Testing File Access Performance" which is the Platinum Experience Index performing hundreds of data checks on files locally and over the network to produce an index for the data files. We then calculate the machine's PEI based on the benchmark values.
Recommended PEI
All of this means:
- The 'lower' the PEI: the 'slower' the terminal will be accessing Platinum.
- The 'higher' the PEI: the 'faster' the terminal will be accessing Platinum.
We would recommend a PEI: score of at least '4.5'. |
How can I Increase my PEI score?
The 'PEI' can be greatly affected by the specification of the terminal that you are using, the network on which it is running and also the configuration of the terminal.
- An old terminal that has very little memory and a slow processor will have a lower score than a newer terminal with a lot of RAM memory and a fast processor. Ideally any PC that is running Windows 7 would be due an upgrade or replacement. Contact your Platinum dealer or our sales team on 0116 230 1500 or by using our website sales contact page to discuss possible upgrades or replacement for your terminal(s).
- If your network is using old router/hub with a transfer speed of 10/100Mb this would be slower than a new router/hub that has a transfer speed of 100/1000Mb. Contact your Platinum dealer or our sales team on 0116 230 1500 or by using our website sales contact page to discuss whether a health visit from our Hardware Department or a complete overhaul of your network is needed.
- Configuring your antivirus software to work optimally with Platinum. For more details of this please click here.
