Summary
There will be times were it is necessary to upgrade or replace a PC that runs Platinum. There are some simple steps you can follow to make this process go as smoothly as possible.
Getting Your Current ID Code
When Adding a Additional New Terminal
If you have purchased a PC that has never been authorized for platinum and will become a new license follow the steps in the "Preparing a New PC for use in Platinum" [Preparing a New PC for use in Platinum below]
When Replacing an Existing Terminal
If you have a PC that is Failing or Has already Failed Follow the steps below to get the PC reconfigured as quickly as possible
If you are Able to Login Before Changing the Terminal
- It is Important to get the "SX Primary ID" of the PC that is to be replaced this is done by logging into Platinum and going to "Help" -> "About Platinum" and Clicking on the "Login" Tab and Noting Down the 'Terminal ID' E.G. PC-1/AB12.
- Once you have the old ID the Old PC can be removed and the new one added to the network
WARNING: Whenever possible it is best to Name the new PC the same Name as the original PC. - If this is not done the steps below for "If you are NOT Able to Login Before Changing the Terminal" will need to be followed and this may take longer than if you have the code for the old PC. |
If you are NOT Able to Login Before Changing the Terminal
If you are unable to get into Platinum, you can find your Platinum SXID by browsing to:
- "My Computer" -> "Platinum Network Drive E.g. P:" -> "SX" -> "SxUtils",
- Then look for 'SXID32.EXE' and run it to get a box that looks like this:
Terminal ID (Method 2) of <Pc Name> is XXXX OK
You will see the PC name and four Character SXID at the far right of this box. Make a note of both these bits of information. Should this be required follow the steps below BEFORE the change to allow for a smoother transition:
TIP: Running this program creates a file called 'SXIDs.ini' stored in \Sx\Sxutils. This will be a log of all PC names and Platinum Terminal ID's that have been collected by running 'SXID32.EXE' |
- Once the ID's have been retrieved follow the steps in the "Preparing a New PC for use in Platinum" [Preparing a New PC for use in Platinum|below] to get the replacement pc ready for Platinum use.
Changing Networking or Computer Name Details
If for some reason you need to change the Networking (e.g. moving to a domain) or changing the name of a PC (e.g. Re-structuring network) this will require a Re-authorization as the networking is one of the things the Platinum Primary ID is based on.
PLEASE NOTE: Unless absolutely necessary avoid changing the Computer name or networking settings as this make mean you will be charged for the re-authorization as this is outside of you maintenance contract as there are changes outside of Platinum's control. |
If you are Able to Login Before Changing the Terminal
- It is Important to get the "SX Primary ID" of the PC that is to be replaced this is done by logging into Platinum and going to "Help" -> "About Platium" and Clicking on the "Login" Tab and Noting Down the 'Terminal ID' E.G. PC-1/AB12.

Preparing a New PC for use in Platinum
- Make sure the New PC is connected to you network and has access to your Platinum server.
- Map a Network drive that is the same Letter as all the other PC's by going to:
- "My Computer" -> "Tools" -> "Map Network Drive".
- Select the Platinum Drive letter in the "Drive" Dropdown Box.
- Use the "Browse" box to enter the Network path to the shared (Public) folder on the Server E.g. \\Server\Public.
Tip: You can work out what Drive letter the other PC's are using by moving to a Platinum PC that is still working and Right Clicking on it's icon and going to "Properties" and reading the First Letter of the "Start In" box. |
- Once the Network Drive is mapped go to "My Computer" and browse to the new Network Drive letter E.g. "P:" -> then to the "SX" Folder -> then to the "SXUTILS" folder.
- Look for an Icon that looks like a "Medical Bag" with a Platinum logo next to it called "SXTERM" and Double Left Click to run it.
- The program will ask you for the Platinum installation Path. If it is not already filled in this is the letter of the Platinum network drive plus :\Sx E.g. P:\Sx. Enter this and Click the [Save] Button
- The screen will then ask you for a Terminal sequence number. This is a Serial number for an "Epic" Branded PC purchased from Catalyst. If it has be brought from us this number will be on the rear of the PC on a Small White Label. If it is not a PC purchased from Catalyst Click the [Not Epic] Button
- The Final Screen asks for a computer description which you can fill in. We generally recommend entering Who uses the pc and where it is.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION: It is VERY important to make a note of the "Clientname" and the "SX Primary ID" fields of this screen as they will be needed to authorize the PC |
.
- The next step will take you to a new window asking if you want to run a Platinum Update Click the [No] Box.
- There will now be a list of options on screen, Put a Tick by Left clicking the line that says "Install Platinum Shortcuts" then Click [Next]
- A bar will go across the screen and you will then get a [Finish] button to click to complete the operation. This will have installed the Platinum shortcut on the new PC ready for use.
WARNING: Once closed you will get a box saying the PC must be restarted you can either click [Yes] and the PC will restart immediately or [No] to restart later. |
- Double Click your new Platinum Shortcut, This should bring up a "Login Error 107 (????)" The Code in Brackets the New PC's SX Primary ID and should match the Note you made earlier when running SXTERM.
- Finally to get you New PC Authorized call Catalyst on 0116 2301500 and ask for ask for the Sales Department and Tell the receptionist you would like to "Re-authorize Platinum".
- Once through to your sales account manager give them any old and new codes you have retrieved in the previous steps
